GENERAL NOTES - from the October Newsletter

DANCE/DRAMA EXAMS -

There are 2 dance/drama exam sessions planned for this academic year which will be on Sun 11th Dec (Dorking venue) and Sun 1st April (Horsham venue).

Please note however that these sessions are not mutually exclusive as many of the students in Dorking will be doing exams in the later session as they need more time to prepare for higher grades, or vice versa. The teachers will be able to advise you which exam session each class is working towards

NEW PRE-SCHOOL CLASSES IN DORKING -

The new pre-school dance and drama class in Dorking is now up and running on Tuesdays at the Follett Hall, United Reformed Church, Church Street, Dorking from 2-3pm. Why not come along for a free trial for this class suitable for preschoolers ages 3+ and tell your friends?

ADULT TAP CLASSES -

Reminder that we have an adult tap class running in Dorking on Thursday evenings from 8-9pm at St Martin’s School, Ranmore Road, RH4 1HW. Although this is billed as an adult class, it’s also a good opportunity for older beginners from age 14 to learn tap so why not come along, learn a new skill and have some fun at the same time?

CALL FOR CHAPERONES -

Could you offer your services as a chaperone for one or more of the many shows and events that we have coming up? As the school grows, we need more and more registered chaperones and parent-helpers to help ensure we remain in line with legal requirements for shows and performances and to ensure the safety and protection of children and staff.

If you would like to volunteer to be a helper, please contact Sharon at the office. You can either help us by becoming a registered chaperone or attend as a parent-helper. We need 1 chaperone or helper to every 8 students for younger classes and 1 to 12 for older students so please offer to help if you can. It’s very rewarding and we will be offering free tickets to people who volunteer as an incentive as well.

ANY SPARE SPACE? -

As our costume store bulges at the seams, please let us know if you have, or know of any storage space that we may be able to use for props and costumes. Gail’s living room is overflowing with costume rails and she feels it would be rather nice to see the TV from time to time!!  Any free help or reasonably-priced space will be gratefully considered.

SENIOR YOUTH THEATRE PRODUCTION - January/February 2012

This production will run at The Leatherhead Theatre in the week 30th Jan – 4th February 2012. We'll be staging 3 performances of the fantastic all singing, all dancing musical Anything Goes on 2-4th February 2012.

Anything Goes is the age-old tale of Boy-Meets-Girl and the amusing complications which ensue, intrigue every audience.

No musical puts it on stage better than Anything Goes. With one of Cole Porter's magical scores, it includes some of his most well-known and well-loved songs such as:

  • It’s De-Lovely
  • Friendship
  • I Get A Kick Out Of You
  • All Through The Night
  • Anything Goes
  • You're The Top.

The show has great characters, comic situations and some fabulous song and dance routines.

The senior youth theatre is open for students aged 13–19 (school years 8-13) and is a great way to put all the skills learned in core classes such as dancing, singing and drama together. The production will be directed and choreographed by Gail and Mark Willment will be the musical director. The fee for the senior youth theatre is £200 and this covers the entire production.

JUNIOR YOUTH THEATRE PRODUCTION - March 2012

The Junior Youth Theatre production will be Out Of This World, an exciting new musical for 6-12 year olds (school years 1-7 inclusive).

This best-selling musical begins when a spaceship lands on an unknown planet. The Captain and his ill-assorted crew soon realise that they are trapped by the ruthless Geekoids. Can they escape, free the friendly Choopies and save the Earth from alien invasion?

It's a good job the Geekoid guards aren't too bright!

Out Of This World combines a fantasy story with an environmental message, and has 25 speaking parts and seven outstanding and memorable songs so there’s a lot for everyone to do.

The production will be on Saturday 10th March 2012 and rehearsals will be on Mondays from 5.00 – 6.30pm at The Hut, Furlong Road, Westcott. The fee for the junior youth theatre is £150 which covers everything in the production and with over 50 hours of tuition scheduled, this really is one of our best value classes. There are still places available so please come along.
